From Thursday 17 November, the Palau del Lloctinent, headquarters of the Archive of the Crown of Aragon, hosts the exhibition "The Crown of Aragon drawn. History and fiction". It brings together for the first time graphic works from the 20th and 21st centuries that have recreated the medieval period of the Crown of Aragon. The exhibition takes us from historical narrative to adventure novels and comic strips through the great names of the genre: D'Ivori, Junceda, Albert Mestre, Batllori i Jofré, Elvira Elias, Josep Granyer, Manuel Gago, Ambrós, Llucià Navarro, Enric Sió, Tísner, Ivà, Cesc, Jan, Jesús Blanco, Jaume Marzal and Sento, together with original drawings by Oriol García Quera, Alfonso López and Francesc Riart.
Original documents from medieval times on loan from the Archive of the Crown of Aragon are also on display.
The Crown of Aragon drawn.
History and fiction. A graphic chronicle
The exhibition shows drawings that graphically interpret the medieval historical period (12th to 15th centuries) of the Crown of Aragon. A period that includes its birth, its expansion across the Mediterranean, the struggle against the Muslims to recover territories, the exploits of the Almogavars and the presence of historical figures such as Count Ramon Berenguer IV, the kings Alfonso the Chaste and James the Conqueror, and Bernat de Rocafort.
This exhibition does not claim to be exhaustive, but simply aims to show the work of some magnificent cartoonists who have left us a living and dynamic legacy in the press, magazines and illustrated books throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition is divided into four thematic areas: historical (well-documented popular works), historical fiction (works set in the aforementioned period), humour (parodies) and Tirant lo Blanc (the popular work by Joanot Martorell, which has had so many comic and illustrated versions).
